Turnip ( Nukal ) Dal - Ingredients

- Turnip ( Nookal , Nukal ) -1 number , diced
- Toor dal - 1 cup
- Tomato - 1 number , chopped
- Turmeric powder-1 pinch
- Hing - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
To Temper :
- Oil - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard -1/2 teaspoon
- Urad dal- 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chilli - 2 number , slit
- Onion - 1 number , chopped
- Curry leaves - 1 spring ( Optional )
Method :
- In a pressure cooker add the washed toor dal, Turmeric powder ,chopped tomatoes, chopped turnip, hing , some water and pressure cook the contents for 10 minutes or till the dal is cooked Soft .
- In a Kadai, heat oil add the mustard seeds, urad dal , cumin seeds, chopped onions , slit red chilli , curry leaves ( optional )and and cook till onions become soft.
- Add the cooked dal to the tempered contents and bring the Dal Nukal ( Turnip ) to a boil .
- Turnip Dal ( Nukal OR Nookal Paruppu ) is ready to be served
- Serve this Turnip Dal ( Nukal Paruppu Kadayal ) with steamed rice rice,and flat breads .
