Mixture Recipe / Chivda

Mixture Recipe

Ingredients :

Ompodi / Sev - 650 Gms
Boondi - 650 gms
Peanut - 200 gms
Poha - 200 gms
Garlic pods - 6 no , crushed
Dalia / roasted channa dal - 200 gms
Red chili powder - As required
Salt - to taste
Oil - For frying


Make the Ompodi / Sev by Clicking here . Crush this  in to small pieces .

Boondhi recipe

Heat oil in a Kadai / Wok . Now fry the peanuts , and Dalia / Roasted channa dal  .

Now fry the poha and add this to the mixture .

Now fry the crushed garlic and add it to the recipe .

Spread all the fried contents on the newspaper and now sprinkle red chilli powder and salt and start mixing the contents evenly .

Store this in an airtight container and use this .

Boondi Recipe

Boondi Recipe


Besan Flour / Gram flour / chick pea Flour - 2 cups
Rice Flour - 2 tsp
Baking soda - 2 pinch
Salt - to taste
Oil - For Frying


In a Mixing Bowl add the Gram Flour , Rice flour , Baking soda , and salt and Whisk . Now add the water and make it in to a batter without any lumps  like dosa Batter consistency ( Not too watery and  Not too thick ) .

Heat oil in a Kadai , and take the Boondi making ladle and pour little batter on the ladle .

The batter falls through the ladle hole in to the hot oil .

Fry till the Boondi turns golden brown color .

Drain on a paper towel and allow it to cool .  If you need some spicy just sprinkle some red chilli powder and serve it .

Store in the air tight Container and use it .

Roasted Channa dhal  Balls / Dalia Laddu /  Udachakadalai Urundai


Roasted Channa dhal flour / Dalia flour - 400 gm
Sugar - 150 gms
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Water - As required

Method :

In a Mixer grind the roasted channa dal in to a powder . Transfer this to a mixing bowl .

Add the sugar to it .

Add the ghee to this .

Sprinkle little water and make balls using this  flour.

Store this in an air tight container and use this .

OmaPodi Recipe / Sev recipe

Crispy snack made with gram flour , Very addictive
OmaPodi Recipe / Sev recipe


  • Ajwain seeds - 1 tsp
  • Channa Dhal Flour / Besan Flour / Gram Flour  - 2 cups
  • Water - As required
  • Salt - to taste
  • Rice flour - 1 tsp
  • Oil - For frying


Soak the Ajwain seeds in water for 1 hour . Filter the water . set aside .

In a mixing bowl add the besan flour , rice flour ,  salt , Ajwain seeds water , and mix . Add little water and knead it to a soft dough .

Heat  some oil in a kadai  . Use the ompodi maker , the ones with tiny holes in it . Add some kneaded flour to it and start pressing it in circular motion  in hot oil .

Fry for few minutes and cook till the bubbles subside . Flip to the other side and fry till it gets cooks completely and the bubbles subside .

Place it on a plain paper or a paper towel  to absorb excess oil

Allow it to Cool a bit .

Break it to small pieces like vermicelli and store it in a air tight container and enjoy .

This is a prefect tea time snack .

Green Tomato Curry / Pachai Thakkali Kulambu

Green Tomato Curry

We harvested few green tomatoes from my patio garden and made this recipe .

From My Patio Garden


Green Tomato - 5 no , chopped
Onion - 1 no , chopped
Tomato - 1 no , diced
Tamarind juice - 1/4 cup
Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp

Salt - to taste

Method :

Heat   Oil in a kadai , add the mustard seeds and allow it to pop . Now add the urad dhal and fry till it turns brown in color .

Add the chopped onions and cook till it becomes translucent .

Now add the chopped tomatoes and cook till it becomes soft .

Now add the chopped green tomatoes and stir . Add the chilli powder ,coriander powder,   turmeric powder, salt and stir .

Add the tamarind juice and bring it to boil .

Cook till the oil separates out from the gravy .

Serve hot with Steamed Rice .

I love pickles . I like to make pickle with any vegetable that I get in hand . My mom makes this recipe when I was young and I loved it a lot . Check out the Green chilli Pickle here  which is very similar to this recipe ,  and my MOM's Lemon pickle here. check out the other pickle recipes in my blog by clicking here . Off to today's recipe .

Easy pickle recipe made with capsicum aka , Bell peppers


  • Bell peppers / Capsicum - 1 number, chopped in to small pieces
  • Onion - 2 number , chopped in to small pieces
  • Tamarind Juice - 1/2 cup , thick concentrate
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Methi seeds - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste


Heat oil in a Kadai , add the mustard seeds and allow it to pop , add the methi seeds and cook till it browns in color .

Now add the chopped onions and fry till it be becomes translucent .

Now add the chopped Capsicum, chiili powder ,turmeric powder ,  salt and mix .

Add the tamarind juice concentrate and bring it to boil . Cook till the oil separates out from the pickle.

Allow it to cool . Transfer the contents to a container and store it in refrigerator and use up to 30 - 45 days .

Easy pickle recipe

Serve this pickle along with the curd rice .

Radish  Stir Fry Recipe / Mulangi Poriyal

Ingredients :

Oil - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Whole red Chilli - 2 no , slit
Daikon  Radish - 2 no , grated
Salt - to taste

Method :

Heat oil in a shallow pan , add the mustard seeds and allow it to pop  , add the urad dhal and fry till golden brown in color and add the slit the whole red chills and fry .

Add the grated radish , salt and sprinkle little water and cook till it becomes soft .

Serve hot with steamed rice and roti .

Vegetable Salad Recipe

Vegetable Salad Recipe
Ingredients :

Cucumber , Carrot , Tomato - Diced
Onion - Sliced
Pepper powder - To taste
Salt - To taste
Lime juice / vinegar - To taste

Method :

In a Mixing Bowl , add all the diced vegetables , Onions, pepper powder , salt and drizzle some lemon juice / Vinegar  and mix well and serve .

Vegetable Pulao Recipe

Vegetable Pulao Recipe


Chopped Vegetables - 1 cup , Chopped
Onions - 2 no , Chopped
Mint leaves - chopped
Cilantro - chopped
Basmathi Rice - 2 cups
Water - 3 cups
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cinnamon Stick - 1 stick
Cloves - 4 no
Bay leaf - 1 no
Ginger Garlic paste - 3 tsp
Salt - to taste
Yogurt - 2 tbsp
Whole red Chilli - 2nos


Add oil in a pressure cooker , add the cinnamon stick , cloves , bay leaf , mint leaves , cilantro leaves , onions and fry till they turn golden brown in color .

Add the Chopped Vegetables , Ginger garlic paste , salt and fry till they become crunchy .

Add yogurt .

Add water and bring it to boil .

Add rice , and throw some mint leaves and cover it with the lid and pressure cook for 1 whistle .

Serve hot with Raitha .
