KEERAI THANDU SOUP | SPINACH STEM SOUP | CLEAR SOUP RECIPES

Keerai Thandu  aka Spinach Stalk ( Stem ) Soup is a very healthy and a clear  soup. Instead of throwing away the stem or Stalks of Spinach ( Keerai ) , I made this simple soup with those Stalks ( Stem ) . This soup helps in  digestion . So now off to today's post Keerai Thandu Soup aka Spinach Stalk ( Stem ) Soup recipe .

Spinach Stem Soup - Ingredients

Preparation Time :5 minutes  | Cooking Time : 20 minutes
Recipe Category:
Soup  | Recipe Cuisine:  Indian
 
  • Spinach Stem ( Stalks ) AKA Keerai Thandu- Few , Chopped roughly
  • Onion - 1 number , chopped
  • Oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Garlic - 2 pods , crushed
  • Turmeric Powder - a pinch
  • Cumin seeds powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Pepper Corn powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Water - As needed



    Method :

    • When I made the Poonangani Keerai Kootu ( Spinach Dal ) recipe , I reserved some stalks from the spinach to make this soup .
    • Take a wok . Add the chopped spinach stem ( Keerai Thandu ) , onion , cumin & Pepper powder , Turmeric powder , salt , crushed garlic , oil and some water .


    • Bring the contents to a boil .


    • Cook till the Spinach Stem ( Keerai Thandu ) become soft . Filter the contents using a strainer to get the clear soup .


    • Garnish the Keerai Thandu soup AKA Spinach Stalk ( Stem ) soup with some fresh spinach leaves . 


    • Serve the Yummy Clear Keerai Thandu Aka Spinach Stem Soup . 


    • Done !! Enjoy !

    VEGETABLE SALNA RECIPE | HOW TO MAKE VEG SALNA ( CHALNA ) , VEGETABLE GRAVY RECIPE

    Vegetable Salna or Vegetable Gravy is a Delicious Veg gravy that goes well with Parotta or Rotis . Veg Salna is a common curry available in all the restaurants in Tamil Nadu . So now off to today's post Vegetable Salna Recipe .

    Vegetable Salna Recipe - Ingredients

    Preparation Time :15 minutes  | Cooking Time : 20 minutes
    Recipe Category:
    Curry  | Recipe Cuisine: South Indian

    • Oil - 2 teaspoon
    • Onion - 1 number , Finely chopped
    • Tomato - 1 number , diced
    • Vegetables of your choice - 1 cup , chopped ( I used , Cauliflower +Potato + Peas )
    • Salt - To Taste

    To Roast and Grind :

    • Oil - 1 teaspoon
    • Pepper Corn - 1/2 teaspoon
    • Jeera , cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
    • Fennel Seeds , Sombu - 1 teaspoon
    • Cinnamon Stick - 1 no 
    • Onion - 1 number , chopped
    •  
    • Tomato - 2 number - chopped
    • Garlic - 5 pods
    • Ginger - 1 tablespoon , chopped
    • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
    • Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
    • Coriander Powder - 1 teaspoon
    • Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
    • Mint leaves - Few leaves  , A handful

      Method :

      To Roast and Grind Step :

      •  Heat oil in a heavy Bottom Pan and add the Contents under " To Roast and Grind table " . First add the pepper , jeera , Fennel seeds , cinamon and roast them in oil for few seconds . Add the onion and cook till they become glossy . Now add the tomato and cook till mushy . Add the garlic pods and chopped ginger and roast them . Now add the turmeric , Red chilli and Coriander powders and cook till raw smell goes away . Now add the Grated coconut and few mint leaves and toss them for few seconds .


      • Allow the contents to Cool down . Transfer them to a mixer and grind them to a paste by adding little water . Set aside .


      To Prepare the Gravy :

      • Take the heavy bottom pan and add oil . Add the chopped onion and cilantro leaves . Cook till the onions become translucent .


      • Add in the tomatoes and cook till they become soft . 


      • Now add the Veggies of your choice and toss them well .


      • Add in the Ground Masala paste and some salt . Add some water and bring the contents to a boil .


      • Cook till the veggies become soft and till the oil separates out from the Vegetable salna gravy . ( The contents could also be pressure cooked for about 2 hisses )  .


      • Vegetable salna is Ready to be served . The Vegetable Salna goes well with ParottaIdli , and  Dosa .

      BEETROOT HALWA RECIPE | HOW TO MAKE BEETROOT HALWA | BEETROOT RECIPES

      Beetroot Halwa is a delicious Indian sweet recipe that can be served as a dessert . My mom made this Beetroot Halwa often when I was a kid . I fell in love with this Beetroot Halwa that I cant resist making this Halwa for My kids . So now off to Today's post Beetroot Halwa Recipe .

      Beetroot Halwa - Ingredients

      • Beetroot - 3 cups , Grated
      • Whole Milk - 2 cups
      • Sugar - 2 cups
      • Butter - 1 stick

        BEETROOT HALWA RECIPE | HOW TO MAKE BEETROOT HALWA | BEETROOT RECIPES

        Method:

        • Grate  the Beetroot . I used my Food processor to do that . Heat a heavy bottom pan . Add the grated Beetroot and whole milk .


        • Cook till the beetroot becomes soft and till the milk evaporated . Add the sugar .


        • The contents may now start to become watery and sticky .Add the butter now .


        • Cook till all the water content is evaporated and the Halwa reaches a thick consistency . Beetroot Halwa is done .


        • Serve the Beetroot Halwa warm . This Beetroot halwa can be stored in the refrigerator for a week and can be used as needed .

        MILAGU MUTTAI VARUVAL | PEPPER EGG ROAST RECIPE | EGG RECIPES

        Pepper Egg Roast Or Milagu Muttai Varuval in Tamil is a quick and simple recipe made in a jiffy . The turmeric and Pepper used in this Recipe " Milagu Muttai " or Pepper Egg Roast  is very good for the treatment of common cold . My husband dhinesh had cold and I made this recipe and he felt much better . So now off to today's post Milagu Muttai Varuval or Pepper Egg Roast  recipe .

        Pepper Egg Roast - Ingredients 

        Preparation Time :10 minutes  | Cooking Time : 10 minutes
        Recipe Category: sides | Recipe Cuisine: South Indian

        • Boiled Egg - 4 numbers , Slit in halves 
        • Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
        • Oil - 2 teaspoon

        To Grind :
        • Pepper Corns - 1 teaspoon
        • Garlic - 3 pods 
        • Fennel seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
        • Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
        • Salt - To taste

          Method :

          • Grind all the contents under the " To Grind " table in to a coarse powder . Set aside .
          • Heat oil in a wok . Add the turmeric powder and let it stand for few seconds .


          • Add the ground powder to the oil and fry till the raw smell goes away .


          • Now add the slit boiled egg to the wok and cook them well till the Milagu or Pepper sticks to the Eggs .


          • Milagu Muttai or Pepper Egg roast is ready to be served .

          • Serve this Milagu Muttai or Pepper Egg with some Steamed rice and Spicy hot rasam . This recipe works like a charm for treating common cold .

          MANGO PICKLE RECIPE | HOW TO MAKE MANGAI OORUGAI ( URUGAI )

          Mango Pickle is a simple , tasty , tangy , finger licking pickle . I love this pickle a lot . I still remember the days when my mom used to get mangoes  fresh from the mango tree in our backyard and make this pickle for us .  Pickle Or Oorugai is one of the common food available in all the south Indian Homes . So now off to today's post Mangai Oorugai or Mango Pickle Recipe .

            Mango Pickle- Ingredients

          Preparation Time :10 minutes  | Cooking Time : 15 minutes
          Recipe Category: Condiments | Recipe Cuisine: South Indian
          • Green Mango  -1 number , Chopped in small pieces
          • Oil - 2 tablespoon
          • Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon
          • Methi Seeds ( Fenugreek Seeds ) - 1/2 teaspoon
          • Red Chilli Powder - 2 teaspoon
          • Salt - To taste
          • Hing -1/8 teaspoon

            Method:

            • In a wok , heat oil . Add the mustard seeds and allow them to pop .


            • Now add the Methi seeds and fry for few seconds . Add some hing .  


            • Add the chopped Mango ( Mangai )  , Salt and Red chilli Powder .


            • Mix the contents well . Cook till the mango becomes soft and it gets mashed as well .


            • Cook till the oil separates out from the Mango Pickle ( Mangai Oorugai ) .


            • Mango Pickle OR Mangai Oorugai is ready to be served . Enjoy the tangy , spicy , hot Mango Pickle ( Manga Oorugai ) with some Curd Rice .

            Dosa is a common breakfast in the south Indian homes . I usually grind Dosa batter once a week and store it in my refrigerator and use them as needed .             Crispy Dosa Recipe - Ingredients

            Preparation Time : 12 hours  | Recipe Category: Breakfast
            Cooking Time : 5 minutes | Recipe Cuisine : South Indian

            • Oil - Few Drops

                Method :

                • Click here for the Recipe to make Dosa Batter with step by step photos .
                • Heat an iron tawa . Pour a ladeful of Dosa batter on the hot iron tawa or an electric griddle .


                • Move the dosa batter in a spiral way by spreading the dosa batter on the tawa. Make the Dosa little thin to get a crispy texture .


                • Drizzle few drops of oil around the Dosa and Cover them with a lid and allow it to cook .


                • Once it is cooked , Scrape the dosa on the top to make it thin and crisp .


                • Remove them and Serve the Crispy Dosa immediately .
