Dal Palak | Spinach Lentils Curry | Keerai Kootu

Spinach Lentils Curry Recipe
Dal Palak / Palak keerai Paruppu masiyal   / Spinach Lentils Curry

Ingredients:


  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Tomatoes-1 no , chopped
  • Green chilli-2 nos
  •  Salt- to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
Tempering:

  • Oil- 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds  - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili - 2 no
  • Spinach -1/2 bunch chopped Or Frozen
  • Onion - 1 no , chopped 
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Spinach Lentils Curry
Dal Palak / Palak keerai Paruppu masiyal   / Spinach Lentils Curry



Preparation:

In a pressure cooker add the washed Toor dal, Turmeric Powder ,chopped tomatoes, slit green chilli, , water and pressure cook it for 10 mts till the dal is cooked well.Add salt and mix well .



In a Kadai, heat oil add the mustard seeds allow it to pop ,add the  urad dal ,cumin seeds, chopped onions ,slit red chilli and  cook till onions become soft.Add the chopped spinach leaves and stir for 2 minutes.


Transfer this to the cooked dal , add water to desired consistency  and bring the contents to a boil .


Serve hot with steamed rice  rice,and flat breads .

Raw Banana stir fry / Plantain poriyal / Valakkai Poriyal / வாà®´ைக்காய் பொà®±ியல்

Ingredients:

  • Raw Banana / Plantain - 1 no , chopped in to cubes 
  • Chopped Onion - 1 no, chopped
  • Sambar powder - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal- 1 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste

Preparation:

Add the cubed plantain in water , so that it does not turn black colour .



In a kadai, heat oil add mustard seeds  and urad dal and allow it to splutter
Now add onions and stir and cook till it becomes soft.

Add Chopped Plantain , turmeric, and sambar powder, salt and sprinkle little water and toss .


Cook till the plantain become soft .Allow it to become dry and roast it till it turns golden brown in color .

Serve hot with steamed rice and a curry of your choice .

Pasiparuppu ( Moong Dal )  Sambar is a easy and a quick sambar recipe that is served with Ven pongal , Idly and Dosa   . Off to Today's post Tiffin Sambar recipe with Step wise Pictures .

PasiParuppu Sambar , Moong Dal Sambar Recipe
PASIPARUPPU SAMBAR | MOONG DAL SAMBAR | TIFFIN SAMBAR RECIPE

 
Preparation Time : 10 minutes  | Cooking Time : 25 minutes
Recipe Cuisine: South Indian 

Ingredients:

  • Moong dal ( Pasiparuppu ) - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Onions-1 number ,  chopped
  • Tomatoes-1 number , chopped
  • Sambar powder - 2 teaspoon ( Click here to View the recipe )
  • Hing - 1 pinch 
  • Salt- to taste
  • Tamarind Juice - 1 /2 cup

To Temper : 

  • Oil-2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds-1 teaspoon
  • Urad dal-1 teaspoon
  • Methi seeds-1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds-1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves-1 spring
  • Red chilli-2 numbers,  slit

Method :


In a pressure cooker, add the moong dal, ( PasiParuppu ) water,turmeric powder, hing,sambar powder,onions ,tomatoes and pressure cook the contents  for 3 hisses . Once Cooked , Open the pressure Cooker and mash them well .

 


In a kadai, heat oil, add mustard seeds allow it to pop , add the  urad dal, methi seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies,curry leaves allow it to splutter. Now add the tamarind juice , salt  and bring it to boil .

 

Transfer the cooked moong dal to the boiling contents  and mix well.

 

Yummy Pasiparuppu Sambar is ready to serve .


This  curry goes well with Ven pongal , Idly and Dosa  and Steamed rice .

OKRA MASALA | BHINDI MASALA | HOW TO MAKE VENDAKKAI VARUVAL

Okra Masala Or Bhindi masala or Vendakkai Varuval is a simple yet tasty Indian subzi or Side dish that pairs well with rice or rotis . Okra Masala is a easy and a quick recipe made in jiffy in less than 15 minutes , so now off to today's post Okra Masala ( Bhindi Masala or Vendakkai Varuval ) recipe.

Okra Masala Recipe - Ingredients Needed :

Preparation Time : 10 minutes | Cooking Time : 15 minutes

  • Okra   -250 grams ,  Chopped ( I used my food processor to chop them )
  • Onion  - 1 number ,  chopped
  • Sambar powder Or Red Chilli Powder - 1 teaspoon ( Click here for the recipe  )
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urad dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Oil - 2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste

Method :

  • Wash the Okra and then Chop them . This allows to remove sliminess in Okra . I used my food processor to chop them . 
  • In a Wok , heat oil add mustard seeds and allow them to pop . Now add urad dal and allow it to become brown in colour .
  • Now add onions and stir and cook till it becomes soft.
 
  • Add Chopped okra ( Bhindi Or Vendakkai ) , turmeric powder , and sambar powder, salt and allow it to get cooked well only in the oil there . Do not add water .
  • Allow the okras  to get roasted in the wok till they turn brown in color .Yummy Okra Masala is Done !


  • Okra Masala ( Bhindi Masala or Vendakkai Varuval ) is ready to serve .  

  • Serve the Okra Masala ( Bhindi Masala or Vendakkai Varuval) with steamed rice and Sambar and Rasam  Recipes , or serve them with parathas .

TOMATO PEPPER CHICKEN | CHICKEN RECIPES

My hubby is an ardent fan of chicken , so I cook chicken for him at least once a week . Check out all the chicken recipes of my website here . Also check out my most popular Authentic chicken curry here , and chicken Masala here . Off to today's post now .


Tomato Pepper chicken Recipe
TOMATO PEPPER CHICKEN | CHICKEN RECIPES

Ingredients:


  • Chicken - 250 grams
  • Red chilli - 6 numbers , slit
  • Turmeric powder- 1 tea spoon
  • Onion -1 number ,  chopped
  • Tomatoes - 1 number ,  chopped very finely Or Pureed
  • Salt - To Taste
  • Oil -1 table spoon
  • Ginger Garlic paste - 1 table spoon
  • Cumin powder -1 1/2 tea spoon
  • pepper powder - 1 1/2 tea spoon 
Easy Pepper Chicken Curry


Preparation:


Cut the chicken and add turmeric powder to it .Mix well and set aside for at least  30 minutes . This step removes the smell from the chicken

In a heavy bottom pan ,  add the oil , after it is heated add the chopped onions and slit red chillies and cook till onion becomes soft.

 

Add the tomatoes and cook till it becomes mushy . ( Pureed tomatoes could be used or the tomatoes could be finely chopped and added )


Add the ginger garlic paste .


Now add the cut Chicken pieces and stir. Add salt and the cumin and pepper powder and stir .


Add some water to let the chicken becomes soft and  cook till the oil separates out from the gravy .


Serve hot with rice, roti dishes .

 Onion Raitha  / Vegetable Raitha / Vengaya Pachadi / வெà®™்காய பச்சடி


Ingredients:

  • Yogurt / curd- 1 cup beaten
  • Onion -1 no , minced
  • Carrots - 2 tsp , grated or chopped
  • Cucumber - 2 tsp , chopped
  • Coriander leaf- 1 tsp, chopped
  • Salt-to taste
  • Green chilli-1 no slit

Recipe:

In a bowl, add the beaten yogurt / curd , green chilli and salt and whisk.

Wash the chopped onion in water .This will remove the hotness from onion.
Add the onions, carrots,  cucumber  to curd and whisk .


Garnish with coriander leaves.


serve with hot biriyani, parathas, and roti.

GARLIC CURRY | POONDU KULAMBU RECIPE

Ingredients:

Preparation Time : 10 minutes | Cooking Time : 20 minutes |

  • Onion - 1 number ,  chopped
  • Tomato - 1 number, chopped
  • Tamarind juice extract - 1/2 cup
  • Garlic pods - 15number , Sliced in to halves
  • Sambar powder ( Curry Powder ) - 1 teaspoon ( Click here for the recipe )
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Sesame seeds oil -  2 teaspoon
  • Methi seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
Garlic Curry , Poondu Kulambu Recipe
GARLIC CURRY | POONDU KULAMBU RECIPE

Method :

In a Kadai, heat oil, add the mustard seeds and allow it to pop.Now add  methi seeds and fry for few seconds .


Add onions and  garlic pods and stir  fry till raw smell goes from garlic and cook till the onions become soft .


Now add the tomatoes and cook till it is soft.Add the sambar powder,salt and turmeric powder and mix . ( If  you don't have curry powder Red chilli powder and coriander powder could be used in the ratio 1: 1 ie 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder and 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder)


Add the tamarind juice and bring the Contents to boil.


Cook till the oil separates out of the  Garlic curry ( Poondu Kulambu ) and the gravy becomes thick .


Spicy Tangy Garlic Curry is ready to serve .Serve hot with Serve hot with Steamed Rice  and a  Vegetable of your choice . Click here to find a sides that goes with the curry .

Roasted Corn on Cob  in India

I was on a vacation to India this summer.One of my favorite street food is roasted corn , and i stopped by the stall.Here goes the recipe of the roasted corn done by the street vendor.

Ingredients:

Corn-1 no
Salt-to taste
Chill powder-to taste
Lime juice-1 to 2 drops

Recipe:

Remove the husk from the corn.
Place it on the fire, rotate them with a pair of tongs while grilling so that all the sides are evenly cooked.
This is similar to grilling corn on BBQ
After the sides are cooked, spread salt ,chilli powder and lime juice evenly.
Now corn is ready to eat

SPRING ONIONS SAMBAR | LENTIL SOUP WITH SPRING ONION



I had a bunch of spring onions in my refrigerator which was left over after i made fried rice , so i thought of trying this recipe.Here goes the recipe of Spring Onions Sambar .

Spring Onions Sambar Recipe
SPRING ONIONS SAMBAR | LENTIL SOUP WITH SPRING ONION

Ingredients:

Preparation Time : 10 minutes  | Cooking Time : 30 minutes | Serves : 4
Recipe Category: Main Dish | Recipe Cuisine: South Indian

To Cook Dal :

  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Hing - 1 pinch

To Temper :

  • Oil - 2 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds -1 teaspoon
  • Urad dal - 1 teaspoon
  • Methi seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chilli - 2 numbers
  • Spring Onions-1 bunch ,chopped
  • Tomatoes - 1 number , chopped
  • Tamarind juice - 1/2  cup
  • Any vegetable of your choice - Chopped  ( I used carrots+Drumsticks )
  • Sambar powder - 2 teaspoon ( Click here for the recipe )
  • Salt - To Taste 
SPRING ONIONS SAMBAR | LENTIL SOUP WITH SPRING ONION


Method :

In a pressure cooker, add the toor dal,some water,turmeric powder, hing and pressure cook for 3 Hisses . Mash it up . Set aside . ( I added few chopped tomatoes , but this is optional )

 


In a kadai, heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, methi seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, and fry for few seconds .
 

Now add the Spring onions and Stir . Add the tomatoes , and the Veggies of your Choice  ( I used Drumsticks and Carrots )

 
Add the Sambar Powder , Turmeric powder , Salt and mix .


Now add the tamarind juice and bring the contents to a boil .


Transfer these contents to the cooked toor dal and mix well.

 

Check for salt and allow it to cook in pressure cooker for 1 whistle or cook in open pan for 15 -20 minutes till the vegetables are cooked.


  Done ! Yummy Spring Onion Sambar is ready to serve .

This  curry goes well with Ven pongal , Idly and Dosa  and Steamed rice .
