How to make soft Idli | Idli recipe | இட்லி | Homemade Idli Dosa Batter |
Ingredients To make Idly Dosa Batter :
- Urad dal - 1 cup
- Idli rice OR Boiled rice - 5 cups
- Methi seeds ( Fenugreek seeds ) - 2 tsp
- Water
- Salt- 5 tsp
Homemade Idli Dosa Batter:
Take the Rice and methi seeds in a big bowl .Wash rice and methi seeds and soak it in water overnight.
Wash urad dal and soak it in cold water for about 45 mts to an hour.
I use wet grinder for grinding.First grind the urad dal for about 40 mts by adding little water. After it has been ground fine , Transfer it to a vessel.Then add soaked rice to the grinder and run it for about 45 mts.
Transfer it to a vessel and mix both the batter together by adding salt.
Allow it to ferment and leave it aside for 10-12 hrs or overnight.
The Batter would have risen . Use that to make Idly or Dosa . Refrigerate the remaining batter and the batter is good to use for 7 days when refrigerated .

Idli preparation:
Steam cook for 20 minutes .
Insert a tooth prick to check if the idlys are done that the inserted tooth prick comes out clean .
Allow the idly to cool a bit and remove the idly using a spoon .
