Egg Gravy / Egg Chalna / Muttai Salna

Egg Gravy / Egg Chalna / Muttai Salna
Salna is a very famous dish served in the southern most part of Tamil Nadu. This is served along with Parotta.
My husband who is from the south most part of tamil nadu is fond of  salna recipe.

Ingredients:

Egg  - 8 no
Onion - 2 no , Chopped
Tomato - 3 no , diced
Green chilli - 3 no
Cumin seeds - 2tsp
Pepper corns - 2 tsp
Fennel seeds - 2 tsp
Garlic pods - 10 nos
Ginger - 2.5' piece, chopped
Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli powder - 1/4 tsp (Optional )
Paprika powder - 1 tsp (Optional ) , Gives red color naturally
Oil - 2 tbsp

Procedure:

Boil the Eggs and Slit them in to half but don't make them in to two halves.


 In a Shallow Pan, heat few drops of oil and fry the onions, tomatoes , Green chilli , ginger, garlic , cumin seeds , pepper corns, fennel seeds , and grated coconut .Cook till tomatoes and onion become soft.


Allow this to cool down.Run this mixture in to a paste by adding little water.

In a Shallow pan heat the remaining  oil , add 1/2 tsp of fennel seeds and Now add the ground paste to oil.
Add little water and bring the contents to boil.


Add the boiled eggs to the gravy , Cook till the oil separates out from the gravy.
Serve hot with parotta , steamed rice , Idly , Dosa.

  3. Oooo, I love this eggs! I used to work on a British ship with a lot of Indian crew and they were cooking this kind of eggs. I used to eat until I got sick, silly me :)

  5. Tried it today and came out well. I added little coriander seeds for the paste and broke an egg in the gravy to get a thicker consistency. Thanks for the recipe :)
