Sweet Banana Pepper Fritters / Milagai Bajji / Mirchi Bajji

I had a lot of sweet banana peppers growing in my little patio garden . Was just wondering what to do with this . Suddenly my mom suggested about the fritters with the peppers  which we call in our language as " MILAGAI BAJJI". Here goes this simple recipe .

Sweet Banana Pepper Fritters / Milagai Bajji / Mirchi Bajji

Ingredients :

  • Gram Flour ( Kadalai Maavu / Channa dhal flour ) - 1 cup
  • Rice flour - 2 tsp
  • Hing - 1 pinch
  • red chiili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Oil - for frying
  • Sweet Banana Peppers - Slit in to two

Method:

In a mixing bowl , add the gram flour , rice flour , salt , hing , red chilli powder and mix .

Add some water and mix it to a dosa batter  ( Not too thick and not too watery )  consistency .

Slit the Peppers in to two . If u need it to be spicy do not remove the seeds . I generally remove the seeds because my kids do not like it with seeds . They find it too hot .

Drop them  in to the batter and coat it well with the batter .

Heat oil in a shallow frying pan and drop the batter coated peppers in oil , and deep fry till they turn golden brown in color.

Serve hot with sauce or any chutney . Enjoy these fritters with a cup of chai .

Note : To remove excess oil from the bajji , drain it on a paper tower and let it sit for few seconds to absorb the oil .
