Channa dal Raw banana curry / kadalai paruppu valakai kulambu / Plantain Curry |
Ingredients:
- Channa dal - 1/2 cup
- Hing - 1 pinch
- turmeric powder - 1 pinch
To Temper :
- oil - 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
- Raw banana / Plantain - 1 no, cut in to small pieces
- Tomato -1no, chopped
- Onion -1 no, chopped
- Salt - to taste
- Sambar Powder - 2 tsp
- Tamarind Juice - 1/4 cup
Preparation:
In a pressure cooker add the channa dal,turmeric powder , hing, some water and pressure cook them for 2 whistles.Mash them Set aside .
In a kadai ,heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal ,and fry them .Now add the onions and cook till it become soft.Add tomatoes and fry till it becomes mushy.Add the chopped plantain, salt , sambar powder and fry till the raw masala smell goes away .
Add the tamarind juice and bring the contents to a boil .
Now add the mashed dal and mix well .
Cook till the plantain become soft and till oil separates outfrom the gravy .
Serve hot with steamed rice .
It's been years since I have eaten a plantain dish.....looks yummmm...
