Lettuce Dal Fry | Romaine lettuce leaf Lentils Fry Recipe

I usually buy lettuce to use it when i make sandwiches . We had some lettuce leaf left over at the refrigerator and I did not want to throw them out , so I thought of making this a combo with Lentils .  I made this similar to Spinach Dal Recipe . Lettuce Dal Fry | romaine lettuce leaf  Lentils Curry Recipe


Ingredients:

  • Toor dal - 1 cup
  • Tomatoes-1 no , chopped
  • Green chilli-2 nos
  •  Salt- to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch

Tempering:

  • Oil- 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds  - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili - 2 no
  • Spinach -1/2 bunch chopped Or Frozen
  • Onion - 1 no , chopped 
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  •  Romaine Leaf Lettuce -  As needed , Chopped


    Preparation:

    In a pressure cooker add the washed Toor dal, Turmeric Powder ,chopped tomatoes, slit green chilli, , water and pressure cook it for 10 mts till the dal is cooked well.Add salt and mix well .

      In a Kadai, heat oil add the mustard seeds allow it to pop ,add the  urad dal ,cumin seeds, chopped onions ,slit red chilli and  cook till onions become soft.Add the chopped lettuce leaves and stir for 2 minutes.


      Transfer this to the cooked dal , add water to desired consistency  and bring the contents to a boil .


      Serve hot with steamed rice  rice,and flat breads .

      2. Great idea to use the lettuce leaves, into a thick curry with dhal. I too sometimes do it, use the balance of ingredients and add into dishes.
