ONION CHUTNEY RECIPE | CHUTNEY RECIPES

Onion Chutney recipe is a quick and a simple chutney that goes well with Idli  and Dosa recipes .  This Chutney is made only with onions and few other spices .  So now off to today's Post Onion Chutney recipe .

Ingredients:

  • Onions - 3 numbers , Sliced
  • Red Chillis - 6 numbers
  • Urad Dhal - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 4 pods
  • Ginger - 2' inch piece , chopped
  • Tamarind - Small lemon size 
  • Salt - To taste 
  • Oil - 1 tea spoon

Tempering:

  • Oil - 2  teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon


Method:

 Take a heavy bottom pan , add oil , Add the urad dhal , red chilli , xhopped ginger and garlic pods and fry for few seconds .


Now add the chopped onions , and Tamarind . Cook till the onion become soft .


Allow the contents to cool down . Transfer this to a blender . Add salt .


Grind them to a paste by sprinkling little water . Now the last part is tempering . Heat oil in a pan , add the mustard seeds and allow it to splutter . Transfer the ground paste from the mixer to the pan . 



Cook till the oil separates from the chutney  . 


Yummy Onion chutney is ready to serve .

Serve this With Idly and Dosa recipes .

  2. I am a big fan of onions, anything with it and its also a must into my dishes. The other of course is chutney. This is so impressive, beautiful flavors and so good to be looked at.

  6. is there a substitute for Urad Dal. its hard to find it in my area

    1. @ Anon , If you cant find Urad dal , U could skip adding Urad dal . Hope this helps .
